What is Reiki?

Reiki - 

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on energy based therapy that supports deep relaxation and helps the body shift out of survival mode and into rest.

Reiki sessions are held in a calm, quiet environment to allow a relaxation response.

During a session you lie fully clothed on a treatment bed while light hand placements are used around the head and body, it is not a massage and you don't need to do anything. Most people experience warmth, heaviness, calmness or simply a quiet mind.​ Reiki isn't about forcing chance, it allows the Nervous System to feel safe enough to slow down.​

When the body relaxes, natural regulation begins.

Auramaia offers 1:1 in-person Reiki sessions, in Aughton, West Lancashire, as well as distance Reiki sessions.

How Reiki can help

Reiki is commonly sought by people experiencing:

  • ongoing stress or burnout

  • anxiety or overwhelm

The Nervous System and Rest

The body has two nervous systems and two main states:

​

Sympathetic - Survival mode (fight, flight, freeze)

-Alert, tense, overthinking, wired.

​Parasympathetic - Rest mode (repair and restore)

- Calm breathing, digestion, sleep, recovery.

​

Modern life keeps many people stuck in survival mode even when nothing is immediately wrong.

Over time this can feel like:

  • constant mental activity

  • shallow breathing

  • tight shoulders or jaw

  • poor sleep 

  • feeling drained despite

  • or tension within areas of the body 

Reiki supports the body in moving back toward a regulated, settled state to allow the body to enter its natural healing state.

This is often why many clients often say: 

"I didn't realise how tense I was until the session finished"

Chronic Illnesses & Ongoing Conditions 

Some clients live with chronic or ongoing conditions.

Reiki does not treat or cure medical illness. instead, sessions provide supportive care for the nervous system while the body is already managing a lot.

Living with ongoing symptoms, fatigue or discomfort can keep the nervous system in a heightened state over long periods. Reiki sessions offer a calm, quiet environment where the body can soften and rest without effort.

Clients in this situation often value:

  • relief from physical tension

  • improve sleep quality 

  • a sense of calm in the body 

  • emotional support

  • a space where nothing is required of them.

Reiki can be used alongside medical treatments and personal self-care practices 

What a session feels like 

You don't need to believe in anything for Reiki to work.

Some people talk.

Many people sleep.

Some notice sensations such as warmth, heaviness, gentle movement or clear quiet mind.

There is nothing you need to do.

The session is simply a period where your body is allowed to rest deeply without interruption.​
